Laserdisc v. DVD

One thing you can do when you have a DVD and a laserdisc of the same movie is to play them simultaneously. This is good clean fun. It also gives a chance to compare an original version of the Star Trek episode, City on the Edge of Forever (DVD) and the sabotaged version (laserdisc). The sabotage was the replacement of source music to comply with some witless copyright issue. I have no other duplicates to compare.

Lies, damn lies and humorous captions

Received a humorous email:

What happens when you have

1) nothing to do
2) a sharp knife
3) a large lime
4) a patient cat
5) too much tequila
6) and it's football season?
ANSWER:

To which I replied, "Surely that is a pummelo?"
"It's definitely not a lime," she said.
"There are other faulty assumptions. It may be that there is in fact no patient cat but that there is a sufficiency of tequila to simulate a patient cat."
"I think the tequila is a total fabrication, esp. considering THAT'S NOT A LIME."

Blurb Madness

"... after taking some hallucinogens ..."
"... they meet up with cannibals, volcanoes and other perils"
"... pursuit of an attractive German war widow ..."
"... his claim that living dinosaur exist in Brazil."
"... despite the advice of missionaries and others..."
"... subsequent loss of children ..."

Silly Impulse Purchase

I was in a chain drug store, and there was a display of off-brand, low-quality DVDs, so of course, I bought several. This is the cream of the crop, in descending order of crap/camp:
Casablanca Express (1988)
Slipstream (1989)
Escape from Sobibor (1987)
Gothic (1986)
Road to Bali (1952)
The Big Lift (1950)
The Lost World (1925)
Zulu (1964)
Penny Serenade (1941)
Of Human Bondage (1934)
