recent additions

The effect of the CSS is "chibi" spines. I amuse myself. Still doesn't work in Opera.

Nomad vs. Sauron

Who would win? They seem pretty well matched. Nomad can sterilize an entire planet. Sauron can destroy all of Middle Earth. They are both very focused on their goals.

First CSS from scratch

A very long time in coming and now only by accident - I have written a few (and no doubt inelegant) lines of CSS. Only five years or so behind everyone else. The results can be seen at my infrequently updated soundtrack comments page. The effect is reasonably accurate, even modified for my column format.
UPDATE: My CSS does not work in Opera. It is faulty. I am faulty. This unit will execute its primary function.
UPDATE UPDATE: Opera is faulty. A really smart co-worker has demonstrated this. I am somewhat disappointed in Opera. But only a smidge.

FSM-Style Spines

I finally got around to making spines for my CDs (my spines are easy to read and have only the needed info and their design happens to be copied from the Filmscoremonthly CDs) and so represent recent-ish purchases in an approximate way. My formatting is accomplished by crude CSS. You have to imagine them away from my narrow column formatting and instead spread across all 5.125 inches of CD jewel case spine.

2003 Sneak Preview

I look forward to these sets. Nifty parts. The pics were posted at this page but have since been removed. (I retrieved the pics from my browser cache and I added the swirly bits with a paint program.)

Odd imagery from webcam.

I have no explanation for this image. I guess I'll know when I get to work tomorrow morning.

UPDATE: The cam had been moved to the top of my monitor. See the magnetism.

Bruce Campbell:
Actor, Author, Nerd.
Not a Little Monkey

I attended a book signing tour by Bruce Campbell. When asked, "What's your favorite movie?" instead of ripping the questioner as he had just about everyone else, he answered, "Bridge On the River Kwai. It has a great story and a great film score. Not a soundtrack, a film score. And William Holden."
Heckler: "Can you whistle it?"
Campbell: "Am I your little monkey?"

Sculpey

I bought some Sculpey brand plastic clay to make my own masks* for my Lego action figures. These are my first trial results. (The blue mask is an actual Lego mask for comparison.)

I tried to be clever and carve out eye-holes on this one. The result was not salutary.

The reverse. The knob in the middle is where they mate with other Lego pieces. It is a join peculiar to masks, designed to facilitate game play which involves knocking the masks off the action figures. It makes sense when you see the toy in action, trust me.

A close up. I made these by first creating an inverse mold of a Lego original from Sculpey. Now I can mold dozens of parts! Muah ah ha ha!!

The next step is to make designs with greater Lego-ness. Legosity? Also smaller and thinner.

320 x 240 Is Not an Acceptable Screen Resolution.

During my Half-Life session, switching between game and desktop resulted in a nasty half hour wherein my desktop resolution was reduced to 320 x 240. In full color. Amusing for a moment but a bit of a bear to fix.

Wasted Sunday

On a whim, I downloaded the Half-Life demo for some first-person shooter fun. That was fine, bit it's just Quake. I did manage to get myself gibbed in a way that allowed me to look at my own head. I guess the post-mortem period is actually more of an out-of-body sort of experience. Sorry for lack of screenshot, I was anxious to get back to playing hand-grenade catch with the extra-dimensional myrmidons. But here's something I learned: don't show mercy to the "enemy" soldiers by giving them a quick death. You need them alive to distract the ceiling monsters. Pity.

If a Flower Falls in the Garden, Do I Have a Vase?

No, but I do have a Dickel Commemorative Bottle (aka a Saurian brandy bottle).
