Accursed PC Architecture!

Why did I not realize that my Zip drive was my second hard drive? And that my pathetic Windows 95 box was not even a suitable second choice? Grr! I'll figure it out soon enough. One of the side effects of the hard drive project is that all my machines are in a shambles and unable to fulfill their duty of taking pictures of my Lego. So I have set up Ginny's laptop to do the honors for a day or two. The furry one, Kitty No, should be visible frequently unless the presence of a Bohrok scares her away from her window perch.
UPDATE: Look for the second IDE connector on the motherboard, idiot.
UPDATE UPDATE: I can't find it, maybe it's behind the CD and CDR cables -- d'oh!

New Computer Bits

President's Day sale at Staples: A free network card, a 40 gig hard drive for fifty dollars, a hard drive cable, a network card for Ginny's laptop, a dry erase board (matches the fridge!) and a clutch of blank CDRs.
UPDATE: Hard drive included a cable. That was unexpected.

It's ... it's furry!

In unexplored territory, the Toa Maiden and her Matoran companions come across an utterly alien creature.

Co-worker Lego Incarnation

Yoda is included for a sense of scale.

UPDATE: Co-worker complains that the Lego interpretation's hair and physique are not accurate and/or adequate. I found myself in the unaccustomed position of explaining that Lego is just a toy.

Consistent espresso

I have mastered, after a few trials, my Krups espresso maker.
UPDATE: Vince reports that the espresso produced is adequate. I am gratified.

Stupid, stupid terror. Who would want such stupid terror?

I'm in Seattle which I cynically presume is being targeted by North Korean nukes (not to mention Russian nukes but they're not evil anymore apparently) and Ginny is in London which is under threat of Al Quaeda attack. Charming.

Finished Idoru and All Tomorrow's Parties

In one sitting each, no less. Which is as about as ringing an endorsement as I can give. Page-turner and so forth.

New Responsibilities Confirmed

After a longish period of mild uncertainty, my new job responsibilities have been confirmed. Hooray!

Mom and Dad have e-mail!

Thanks to one of my cool brothers, the folks now have an email appliance. Spiffy! Appropriate!

Altered States redux

Altered States homage

A couple of accidental webcam pics and a little of the ol' Photoshop and having recently watched Altered States has resulted in this:

Unfortunate Headline Aggregator

The Columbia disaster fills me with nothing but grief. And this sort of unfortunate headline composition doesn't really help. I feel guilt presenting it.

William Gibson reading

Went to Kane Hall to see William Gibson read from his new book. He also signed books and a pair of socks. A fine time was had by all.
