Cliffs Notes version of novel hits all the major points. Fredric March much more natural than in
Mary, Queen of Scots. Basil Rathbone steals all his scenes and manages to make Karenin almost human. Garbo is perfectly cast but lacks vim. Production is outrageously opulent; Fredric March alone must have twenty changes of costume.
